International business is being developed with the current emphasis on Asia (Korea, China, India) for primarily electronic interlocking equipment, Automated Train Controllers (ATC), and Automated Train Operating (ATO) equipment. Electronic interlocking equipment is being marketed in Korea, China and India in association with local partner enterprises. A joint venture technology partnership agreement was concluded with Instrumentation Limited (hereafter 'IL") of India in 2004. Since then, orders have been jointly received for the K5B Series (electronic interlocking equipment - hereafter "K5B Series"). The first equipment order was installed at the Samlaya Station, Western Railway Zone, Indian Railways and has been in use since October, 2005. Kyosan and IL share equipment manufacturing responsibilities, while IL is responsible for onsite installation and associated contract matters. The pace of technology transfer has been accelerated so that from the second order on, Kyosan supplies only core components; IL designs and manufactures the remainder of the electronic interlocking equipment. Currently, orders in progress include equipment for seven (7) stations of the Western Railways, and equipment for one (1) station to be supplied to a VIZAG manufacturing facility for a total equipment order for eight (8) stations. The equipment will be gradually placed in service.

The K5 Series, already in operation at over 500 train stations in Japan, had been supplied to China since 1996 as electronic interlocking equipment for the Zhoucun station of the Shandong Province. Due to the increase in orders for electronic interlocking equipment from China, a technology transfer agreement was concluded with the China National Railway Signal and Communication Co. (CRSCD) in February, 2001. Under this agreement, the DS6-K5B Series of electronic interlocking equipment (hereafter 'DS6-K5B Series') were developed and commercialized; this arrangement has continued to the present day.

In order to create opportunities to effectively supply hardware to China (for domestically produced product), Kyosan is encouraging domestic production of this equipment in China. A manufacturing permit was issued to CRSCD on December 25, 2006 authorizing the production of electronic terminals (ET-PIO2 and MMIF2) used in electronic interlocking equipment. Production is in progress.

Logic unit hardware incorporates a K5B Series 32-bit fail-safe microprocessor that manages the operational flow of the K5 series. Logic hardware uses the basic operating program running on the K5B Series logic unit as-is, and at the same time, is capable of running an enhanced application developed in conjunction with a domestic applications specialist and certified by the China National Railways capable of interfacing with an interlocking control program (standard program) for DS6-11 Series electronic interlocking devices (hereafter "DS6-11").
