Signaling System for Taiwan High-Speed Rail
Taiwan High-Speed Rail Signaling System
The Taiwan High-Speed Rail representing the first export of Japan's Shinkansen train systems abroad, began operation between Banchiao Station near Taipei and Banchiao Station in Kaohsiung City on January 1, 2007. On March 2, 2007, the line began full operation between Banchiao and Taipei.
Kyosan is part of a consortium of Japanese companies that have joined together to provide signaling systems and facilities for the Taiwan High-Speed Rail, contributing to its safety and stability.
Taiwan High-Speed Rail Signaling System Features
The Taiwan High-Speed Rail's signaling system is based on over 40 years of experience with the high-speed, dense timetable Tokaido Shinkansen Line, with special functionality to meet special requirements.
[Special Functions for the Taiwan High-Speed Railway]
1. Automatic Speed Control (To prevent accidents and for security)
2. Call-on Control to provide back-up for areas of track circuitry malfunction
3. FWI/SPAD system to provide back-up for on-board ATC equipment
4. UC (Universal Console)
5. Single Track Operation
  The rail is designed for single track operation. Turnouts are provided before and after each station for train routing as well as crossing loops on long turnabout areas.

Taiwan High-Speed Rail System Tracks and Facilities
The Taiwan High-Speed Rail covers a 345-kilometer area between Taipei and Kaohsiung, and consists of 11 train stations including three nearing completion.
Various depot locations, a Main Workshop and a Central Command Center (OCC) are also part of the line.
The rail consists of 30 trains, of which Kyosan has provided on-board ATC equipment for 19.
