The Road Traffic Control System gathers and analyzes vehicle information on increasingly congested city streets to optimize signal controls to match traffic patterns while at the same time providing pertinent, up-to-the-minute traffic information to drivers. This helps reduce drive time in stop and go traffic, and brings about a smoother overall traffic flow resulting in fewer traffic accidents, reduced environmental pollution and auto emissions and ultimately creates a pleasant and safe traffic environment.
The system contributed significantly to the success of the Nagano Olympics where: a two-way optical sensor was used to gather and provide information about oncoming train traffic, making it possible for Olympic-bound trains to have precedence over other trains and to get visitors to the Olympics to their destinations faster. |
