The NS-H Series of electrical switches was developed in response to recent growing needs for reduction of switching times to accommodate high-speed, high-density railway time tables in and near major cities. The NS-H Series of electrical switches incorporates an entirely new design. In addition to incorporating a clutch motor, the intermediate gears and gear ratios have been modified to enable faster shifting. Installation procedures and installation hardware remain the same as for conventional NS-H Series switches.

The NS Series has been in development for approximately 20 years and uses the conventional magnetic clutch. The NS-H Series was developed based on design improvements to the NS Series such as[1]a newly developed high-torque motor clutch and [2]re-engineered gear reduction ratios In addition to the standard specifications, the NS-BH Series with flexible dual switches and the NS-CG Series for moveable point (swingnose) crossings are also available.
